My username is Mr. Alexander on Doomworld and elsewhere. This site is for sharing my Doom maps, midis, demos, and other hobby work.
Whenever I need something on in the background, I like to listen to old Dean of Doom videos. I particularly like the one about Speed of Doom because it's the one that introduced me to the series, which, in turn, is what got me back into playing Doom around 2021.
Some wads I've enjoyed recently:
-
Ship of Theseus
- A really pleasant formal experiment in which one beginner mapper's level is redesigned over and over. Named for the boat found at the end of each level as well as the philosophical concept.
-
Idumea
- A revised version of a level from Doom 2 in City Only, a little town surrounded by colossal infernal architecture. The finale is really something to behold.
-
Speed of Doom
- It took me a while to play this one seriously, but now that I'm much of the way through, I can see why it's regarded as such a classic. Looking forward to the last episode.
-
House of Dead Skin
- A huge mazelike horror rendered in the brownest, driest textures of vanilla Doom II. The author clearly learned well from Ribbiks and others, but she's just as clearly a mapper to watch in her own right.
Some wads I want to check out:
-
DBP 68: Outposts of the Wasteland
- LunchLunch was in charge of this latest Doomer Boards Project, and thanks to The 10x10 Project, I'm happy to try out anything in which he was involved. The screenshots look great: I'm sure their resource pack was incredible.
-
Sleepwalking
- This one's a bit of a cheat. I'm actually up to the finale of Map01. But I love the snowy setting, the chilled-out, somewhat melancholy music, and the beefed-up arsenal.
-
Struggle: Antaresian Legacy
- Again, a bit of a cheat, because I've played up to Map08 or something like that. I abandoned that playthrough a long time ago now, and I really want to see the bigger setpieces from later in the wad.
-
Crumpets
- I'm shamefully unfamiliar with Ribbiks's work except by reputation, having only played a little bit of Sunlust, the Stardates, and Jumpwad. I haven't even tried Swim with the Whales past the first couple of rooms of Map02. This one is always talked about as a good introduction to his style.
